What do I need to bring to my first appointment?

Visit Tips Here are some tips to get the most from your consultation: Bring copies of any laboratory results you have had from the last year, or before, if you have them. This will save you time and money so that we don’t need to repeat anything. Bring any supplements or medications you are currently taking to the appointment to learn what will give you the most benefits. Drink 32 oz. of non-bubbly, non-caffeinated beverages before your visits to get the most accurate diagnostic testing. You can learn more about our specific Functional Medicine treatment plans for different conditions at How Can I Get Help?

Will Whole Health Solutions healthcare providers work with my chiropractor/acupuncturist/bodywork specialist?

We specialize in Integrative Medicine at Whole Health Solutions. We value the input of your complementary and alternative healthcare specialists. We are happy to speak with them at your request. A confidentiality form available at our front desk required by HIPAA is necessary to allow us to speak with other providers you request.

Do you see acute illnesses or walk-ins?

Whole Health Solutions is not a primary care medical facility, and therefore cannot accommodate requests for urgent medical attention. At your request, Whole Health Solutions will collaborate in your care with your other physicians. If, as a prudent adult, acting in your own best interest, you determine that your symptoms need urgent medical care, we recommend you go to or call your primary care physician or an urgent care center. It is advised that more serious symptoms, such as chest pain, faintness, shortness of breath, seizures, and other life-threatening symptoms be cared for in an emergency room.

What is your visit cancellation policy?

Whole Health Solutions has a no-show/cancellation policy to improve scheduling and allow us to see all patients in a timely manner. Scheduled time with our practitioners is very valuable, as they have set aside time just to focus on you. In fairness to our staff and other patients who may be on a waiting list for an open appointment, we ask that you respect this policy. All patients are required to reschedule or cancel appointments at least 48 business hours in advance. Failure to do so will result in a fee which is non-reimbursable by insurance companies.

What to Expect at My Visit

What should I expect at my consultation? How long does the consultation last?

We really care about the details of what is going on with you. We put together a whole picture of your lifestyle, what is important to you, intuitive things you have noticed about your condition combined with our expert knowledge of root causes and comprehensive treatments which will help to solve your health concerns. In order to give you the detailed attention needed for this, education of what you need to do, as well as answering your questions, it is important that you provide answers to our Health History and Health Status Update questionnaires PRIOR to your visit. This will allow your healthcare provider to be prepared for your consultation, as well as give you the most face time with the provider. Visit times may be minimized when you do not provide this information prior to your visit. When you give us this information before your appointment, you may have up to 90 minutes at your initial consultation, and 60 minutes on follow-up consultations. Root cause diagnostics and detailed treatment instructions are given at each consultation

What kind to testing and treatment do you recommend?

At Whole Health Solutions, we use Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine approaches. Rather than “one-size-fits-none” medication-limited treatments, we look deeply at your unique root causes, including immune dysfunction and hidden infections, hormonal imbalances, toxin issues, and mitochondrial disorders. We always add in lifestyle support with condition-specific nutrition, improved sleep, etc. During your consultation, you will receive detailed information about the therapies most specific to your individual situation, as well as a printed summary including instructions.

Financial Matters

Does Whole Health Solutions accept my insurance?

The healthcare providers at Whole Health Solutions give you access to the most advanced healthcare available. Our intention is to provide you with the most complete information and services to empower you to turn on fundamental healing in your body and mind. In order to give you the broadest options obtainable, we provide all services as fee-for-service. This means fees are due at the time of the service. We accept cash, checks, Visa and MasterCard. At your visit, you will receive an Encounter Form which lists codes and charges you may use to submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. Because we do not limit our recommendations to what insurance companies decide to cover, it may be helpful for you to learn about what your plan covers as deductibles, co-pays, and “medically necessary” coverage. Consultation fees are often reimbursable as “out-of-network”. For more information on how to get reimbursement, click here. We will try to help you determine when specialty lab testing may be covered.

Can I use my Health Savings Account (HSA) at Whole Health Solutions?

HSA’s are ideal means of employing insurance coverage at Whole Health Solutions. Most HSA’s issue a card, which can be used at qualifying providers in the same manner as a debit or credit card.

Does Whole Health Solutions participate in Medicare or Medicaid?

Whole Health Solutions has opted-out of participation with government health plans as they often restrict the Integrative Medicine services we recommend. It is important for you to understand that you CANNOT file for reimbursement of any of our fees with Medicare, and it is illegal for us to file anything for you.

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement FAQ's

Do I have to take hormones to feel better?

Whole Health Solutions offers many options to help your body manage hormonal issues naturally. Some of these can be used instead of, or in addition, to Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). BHRT uses the same molecules made by your body, therefore theoretically working more naturally. We discuss an individual’s risks at your consultation and answer your unique questions.

Do you use pills, creams, pellets or injections?

Treatment options are individualized. Transdermal methods, including creams, gels and patches are available, sometimes through your regular pharmacy. Injections or troches may also be prescribed. We do not recommend oral estrogen or testosterone, but progesterone can be taken safely by mouth. We do not insert pellets as dosages are difficult to adjust once they are inserted.

What lab tests are required for hormone therapy?

Hormone lab testing depends on your goals for therapy. Adrenal testing for both men and women is often an important component of managing thyroid and reproductive hormones. Saliva testing is more accurate for adrenal issues. Male hormone therapy may be adjusted based upon blood lab tests. Female BHRT is more complex and blood, saliva or urine testing may be needed for diagnosis and to monitor safety once treatment is started.

Where can I get more information about BHRT and risks?

Visit our BHRT website.

Lab FAQ's

Will laboratory tests ordered by Whole Health Solutions be covered by my insurance?

The vast majority of costs attendant to lab fees associated with a visit to Whole Health Solutions are directly covered by your insurance company. When you go to a lab for testing, the lab bills directly to your insrance company. In other words, if a lab is requisitioned by an M.D. for a patient, it is irrelevant in most cases, from the insurance providers standpoint, if that M.D. is in or out of network. However, we always recommend that you check directly with your insurance company if you have any questions. It is also very important to know the terms of your plan, such as deductibles, co-pays and what they consider "medically necessary." For instance, if you have a high deductible plan, such as $1000 or more, you will owe this to the lab if you have not met your deductible for the year. For those patients who have no insurance or unmet deductibles, we have negotiated very favorable rates with our laboratory providers. In these cases, you pay us the fee at the time of the service, which we pass on to our negotiated lab providers. Whole Health Solutions uses many Functional Medicine specialty labs to get to the root cause of your symptoms. Some of theses specialty labs participate with insurers, and we try to inform you of this. Most often, they provide a discount for paying at the time of the test rather than waiting for a bill.

Do you provide laboratory services?

We provide lab draws for Quest Diagnostics on site. If you have a high deductible plan or otherwise pay out of pocket, our discounted lab prices can save you money. Lab draws are done Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between 10a and 2pm by appointment. We also provide FREE lab draws for our specialty Functional Medicine laboratory tests.
